The Montana Primary Care Association (MCPA)

Get on the Right Track LogoThe Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation is beginning its fourth year of partnership with The Montana Primary Care Association (MPCA) to deliver dental screening to low-income children across the state of Montana.

Through MPCA, the Foundation’s grant money is distributed to health clinics in Missoula, Kalispell, Cut Bank, Havre, Butte, Livingston-Bozeman, Libby, and Billings.

Thus far, over 1608 children from economically disadvantaged families have been screened at Community Health Centers as part of the Washington Foundation’s “Get on the Right Track” program. Over half of the children screened received treatment for decay.

With funding from the Foundation, Community Health Centers are able to not only screen and treat children that normally would not have access to these services, they are also able to focus on oral-health education (for both parents and children) and increase awareness in both the dental and general communities about children’s dental needs. The “Get on the Right Track” program also puts dental staff out in communities as part of an outreach program that focuses on prevention, which in turn positively impacts self-esteem and job prospects for the young members of our communities.

The Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation’s 3-year grant will run from Jan 2011-Dec 2013. We are looking forward to more wonderful stories and pictures of smiling faces as the partnership proceeds and dental screenings continue.
