Jadyn Fred Foundation
Established in May of 2001, The Jadyn Fred Foundation works diligently in the spirit of the little girl it was named after to help children and their families who are battling cancer. Jadyn’s family and the Board of Directors of the foundation work to provide direct financial assistance on a three-tier system: first, for families with children currently in treatment or follow-up treatment for cancer, second, for children with major medical needs other than cancer and third, for children with special needs who are not in need of major medical care.
The Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation has been proud to partner with the Jadyn Fred Foundation in their efforts to accomplish these goals. Recently, we awarded a two-year grant to the Jadyn Fred Foundation for the purchase of medication not covered by Medicaid or other private insurance. This is an often overlooked but incredibly vital piece of the puzzle for the many families struggling with these issues. Prescription medications are not always covered by private insurance or public medical assistance; in some instances, a doctor may prescribe a choice between several medications, only one of which is covered by insurance.
If the child does not tolerate this one specific medication and has to purchase one of the other options, and the better-fit drug is not approved for coverage, the cost can be insurmountable for the family. By adding this area of assistance to their already remarkable program, the Jadyn Fred Foundation and the Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation hope to fill an area of need for families in this very difficult position.
