Organizations
Eligibility, grants and philanthropic resources.
How to apply
If your organization qualifies, based on the Grant Guidelines, and you are interested in applying for a grant, you must complete the online application process described below. If you would like to apply for a scholarship, please click here.
- Read the Grant Guidelines: Review the Eligible Categories and the four focus areas of giving to ensure that your organization or program is eligible for consideration. If your program falls within any of the Ineligible Categories, your request cannot be considered.
- Complete the online Eligibility Review: After reading the Grant Guidelines, complete a short Eligibility Review to ensure that your organization is eligible to apply. If you are eligible, you will be electronically linked to an online Preliminary Application Form.
- Submit the Preliminary Application Form: The Preliminary Application Form is designed to let you know as quickly as possible whether or not the Foundation can consider your proposal. You will be notified within 45 days by the Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation Executive Director if you qualify for a Full Application Form and will be provided an email link to the Foundation's Full Application Form.
If your organization is invited to submit a Full Application, you may do so online, via a link that will be sent to you in an email. The Foundation will only consider applications that are submitted through the online application process.
Cautionary Note: The link will be valid for 60 days. It is extremely important that your organization submit the full application within 60 days of receipt of the email invitation. After the 60 days has expired, the application will be considered null and void and your organization will be ineligible to apply during that calendar year.
Please do not submit additional material such as photographs, letters of support or other printed materials.
Upon receipt of your Full Application, you will be asked to provide supporting documentation such as:
- General financial information, including your organization's total current budget and, if applicable, project budget and the principal sources and amounts of ongoing annual support.
- Copy of your Treasury letter certifying that your organization is not a private foundation and qualifies as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, or evidence of government agency status under Section 170(c).
- Copy of your latest IRS Report 990 or 990PF filed.
