Horatio Alger Association Awards 2013 Dennis R. Washington Achievement Graduate Scholarship to Nine Graduate Students

September 12, 2013

Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans, Inc., a nonprofit educational organization honoring the achievements of outstanding individuals and encouraging youth to pursue their dreams through higher education, today announced it has awarded the 2013 Dennis R. Washington Achievement Graduate Scholarship to nine Horatio Alger Scholars across the United States. This scholarship was established in 2008 by Dennis R. Washington, founder of the Washington Companies and chairman emeritus of the Horatio Alger Association, and his wife Phyllis Washington through the Dennis & Phyllis Washington Foundation. This organization has since funded more than $2 million in graduate grants.

The Dennis R. Washington Achievement Graduate Scholarship Program is a distinguished academic endowment established to provide financial assistance exclusively to exceptional Horatio Alger Scholars who are committed to pursuing graduate, medical or law degrees. The program is designed for undergraduate recipients of Horatio Alger Association scholarships who have completed a bachelor’s degree with a minimum grade point average of 3.0, demonstrated leadership, entrepreneurial qualities and a passion for service to their community. Additionally, candidates must be accepted into a master’s, professional, or doctoral program at an accredited institution in the United States and must be a United States citizen.
