The Vienna International Ballet competition was held in Missoula in January, the first time the prestigious event was held in the United States.
The Vienna International Ballet Experience is open to professionals, students and amateurs of ballet and contemporary dance, from across the U.S. and worldwide. The contest, hosted by Destination Missoula and Rocky Mountain Ballet Theatre and sponsored by the Dennis & Phyllis Washington Foundation, brings together some of the most outstanding young dancers from around the world.
VIBE also presented interactive dance demonstrations at local schools. Nearly 200 students from Missoula International School, Target Range School, and Franklin School participated in VIBE dance challenges, dance lessons, and presentations.
More than 6,000 participants – contestants, jurors, speakers, audience members, and school children – gathered in Missoula for the 5-day competition. 20 percent of the dance participants received scholarships or some form of financial support to attend.
