Giving Stories
Dennis and Phyllis Washington have always valued grassroots philanthropy as a means of bringing about positive change in communities where their employees live and work. In 2008, the Washingtons created the Pay It Forward program to inspire and empower employees to give to charitable causes of their choice and bring positive change to our communities. Since then, over $1.1 million has been donated to employee charitable causes.
Today, the Pay It Forward Charitable Giving Program distributes 250 giving cards, worth $500 each, to winners of a randomly selected drawing of U.S.-based employees of the Washington Companies. The winners may use the giving cards toward any charitable cause of their choice, whether that be a nonprofit organization or an individual or family in need.

Stories
Employees who receive giving cards are required to submit a story and describe how they used their giving cards. However, employees have the option to have their stories published on the Foundation’s website or not, and recipients of the giving cards may remain anonymous. The Washington family and the Foundation enjoy hearing about all the good employees are doing in their communities with their Pay It Forward giving cards.
